Can't I just do this by myself?
Ehhhhh… no.
Doing it all yourself sounds admirable: you define the role, you do every interview and you own the decision. But it is one of the three main reasons hiring processes fail.
- When you define the role, you need people around you to show you what the role must add to your own skills, and what you might be missing. Your Cipher review team does this.
- When you interview, you need people who see the candidate differently from you, so you make the decision on more than one view.
- When you decide, the people the new hire will work with are more likely to support someone they helped choose.
