What are the roles on a hiring team?
The hiring team usually consists of:
- Hiring Manager: the person who is directly responsible for the employee who is hired into the role. The Hiring Manager owns the decision.
- TA Partner: one or more representatives from human resources or talent acquisition, if the organization has these departments. The TA Partner runs the process.
- Cipher Review: these members receive your draft Cipher when it is complete, and give both unaided and direct feedback to ensure alignment on the Charge, Outcome, Deliverables and Efforts that a candidate needs to be successful. Cipher Review approves the Cipher.
- Sourcing & Screening: these members use your finalized Cipher to screen applicants before presenting them for your consideration. Usually your HR partner is the main member of this group, if not the only one.
- Interviewer: think about all of the stakeholders in your company who should meet candidates for this role. Some members may not interview every candidate, so cast a wide net.
A complete team needs a Hiring Manager, at least one other Interviewer and a Cipher reviewer. The make-up of each group will vary from job to job. For suggestions, see Who should be on my hiring team?
