Panel interview: a series of one-to-one interviews often works better

Two or more interviewers, one candidate, one sitting. Here is how a panel interview works, and what HireBest suggests for most roles.

What a panel interview is

A panel interview is conducted by two or more interviewers with a single candidate at the same time. The questions are shared out between the members of the panel, who ask the questions they are assigned in turn.

What HireBest suggests instead

One interviewer each

In HireBest, each hiring interview has one interviewer. For most roles we recommend a series of one-to-one interviews instead of a panel.

Chapters of a career

Divide the candidate's career into chapters and give each interviewer one or two of them.

A rating from everyone

Each interviewer completes their own candidate rating after the interview, whatever the format.

Debrief on the facts

Four interviewers can leave with four private ideas of the role. HireBest measures what each one heard against the Cipher®, the shared definition of the job. It shows how many of the interviewers have rated the candidate, so the team can debrief on the facts and decide on the evidence.
