Turn on two-step sign-in
Two-step sign-in adds a second step to your sign-in. You type your password, and then a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone. A person who learns your password still cannot get in without your phone.
Who can do this
Every HireBest user can turn it on for their own account. Your organization can also require it. Then HireBest shows Set up two-step sign-in and you cannot continue until you finish the set-up. It takes about a minute.
Before you begin
Install an authenticator app on your phone, for example Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or 1Password.
Turn it on
- Open Account, then Security.
- In Two-step sign-in, select Turn on two-step sign-in.
- HireBest shows a square QR code and a key. Open your authenticator app and scan the QR code. If you cannot scan it, type the key into the app.
- Type the 6-digit code that the app shows.
- Select Check code and turn on.
HireBest shows "Two-step sign-in is on. Your next sign-in will ask for a code." The card shows On and lists your authenticator.
If you stop before step 5, select Cancel. Nothing changes on your account.
What happens next
Each time you sign in, HireBest asks for your password. Then the Two-step sign-in screen asks for the 6-digit code from your app. Type it and select Continue. The code changes every 30 seconds. Use the newest one.
Add a second authenticator
We recommend a second authenticator, for example on a second phone or in a password manager. Then a lost phone does not lock you out.
- Open Account, then Security.
- Select Add another authenticator and do steps 3 to 5 again.
You can have up to 10 authenticators. At sign-in, choose the authenticator from the Authenticator list.
Remove an authenticator
- Open Account, then Security.
- Select Remove next to the authenticator.
- Type the code that this authenticator shows now, then select Remove authenticator.
HireBest asks for a code from the authenticator that you remove. If you lost it, read Lost your phone or authenticator.
When you remove your last authenticator, two-step sign-in is off. If your organization requires two-step sign-in, you cannot remove your last authenticator. Add another one first.
Problems and recovery
- "That code did not match". Check that the time on your phone is set automatically. Use the newest code that the app shows.
- "Too many tries". Wait 5 minutes and try again.
- You lost your phone. Read Lost your phone or authenticator.
